The Problem
Our school identified that many girls were missing classes due to a lack of awareness about menstrual hygiene and inadequate sanitation facilities. This affected their attendance, confidence, and participation in classroom activities. The issue particularly impacted adolescent girls, limiting their access to equal learning opportunities and contributing to gender inequality within the school.
The Solution
We conducted awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene, trained female teachers to support students, installed sanitary pad dispensers and covered disposal bins, and improved the cleanliness and privacy of girls’ washrooms. We also created a student support group and monitored attendance to measure improvement.
Impact
Improved girls' attendance by 20%.
Increased awareness of menstrual hygiene among students.
Better participation and confidence in classroom activities.
Established a safe and supportive school environment for girls.
Reduced absenteeism and promoted gender equality in education.
